Shadow theater!

Shadows are one of the most common yet intriguing things that we see around us. In this edition of DIY toy factory, we present the amazing Shadow theatre, an awesome toy to explore your imagination using very few materials available at your nearest stationary.

  • Butter paper
  • Torch
  • Silhouette prints
  • Ice cream sticks
  • Tape
  • Scissors

The Science:

Light interacts differently with different objects. Some materials allow light to pass through them, like the window of your car while some block light completely..yes you got it right- Opaque objects. And then there is the third kind which partially “blocks” and partially allows light. Now that may sound really simple, but great minds have pondered over this freakishly common but confusing nature of light. We see a red flower because the flower absorbs every other color from the Sun (white light which is made up of all the colours) and only reflects red and hence appears red. Now what would happen if we were to point a source of light to a red object which would have all the colours except red? Think it over! Once you do watch this awesome video answering the above question.

Shadows are forever..

Though it might not be that apparent but shadows are doorways to understanding many scientific concepts ranging from eclipses to explaining day and night! Using this DIY toy use the power of light to shadows to make and create new characters and stories of your own!
